The Smile Charity Film Awards provided a perfect opportunity to come together with the world’s largest cause-based film campaign on the International Day of Happiness. This year, the awards celebrated the powerful impact of cause-driven filmmaking and the individuals and organisations creating change through film.

The awards recognise organisations that are championing change, regardless of size or resources. It was an honour to attend alongside Juliette Morrison and witness the incredible work being done to raise awareness and inspire action. Every film submitted represents a mission, a movement, and a moment that deserves to be seen, and many of the charities behind these films rely on donations to continue their vital work.

This year, the awards received an impressive 520 entries, and the judging panel faced the challenging task of selecting the winners. From deeply emotional and poignant stories to inspiring calls to action, the films covered a broad range of causes, each deserving of attention. Among my personal favourites were:

β€’ Autistica UK – Our World, 2030

β€’ Refuge – Make the World a Refuge

β€’ Friends of the Earth – Sh*t Beach

β€’ The Hedgehog Society – The Littlest Hoglet

β€’ Woodland Trust – Recovering the Rainforest

The evening was hosted brilliantly by Lisa Snowdon, whose warmth, humour, and impeccable timing kept the event flowing seamlessly.

The Smile Charity Film Awards continue to shine a spotlight on those using film to drive meaningful change, and it was a privilege to be part of such a remarkable celebration.

Thank you Nick Ede and East of Eden PR for the very kind invitation.

Great to catch up with Scarlotte Douglas, Jeff Brazier and Donna co-founder of Joyfulness Online.
