Claire's Story
Last October I finished work like any other day, got in my car ready to drive home when I received a call from one of my closest friends telling me she had breast cancer. My initial thought was 'it will be ok, she'll be ok'. After that I jumped right into practical mode, ok what can I do to help? Childcare? School runs? Take her to appointments? Fast forward a couple of months, she has now had her operation and commenced her treatment and this is where the hard work begins. Again I find myself wanting to do more.
I began looking at the different services and charities out there for inspiration and I found SO many! How do I know which ones she would benefit from personally? I then came across the pink ribbon foundation which offers grants to many different breast cancer organisations from the more well known charities like cancer resesrch uk to the smaller, less well known charities and even individuals offering breast cancer care up and down the UK. Perfect! Decision made, I'll fundraise, now what can I do...?
Inspired by another charity (cancer research uk) I am about to discover my pelvic floor isn't what it used to be... 100 skips per day for the duration of my gorgeous friend's treatment (I desperately want to add something sarcastic here but I'll refrain for now, all I'll say is, the things you do for friends lol!)
I know this might not seem much however this is me we are talking about! The girl who funded the local gym by paying a subscription she never used, the girl who started a couch25K training course and didn't finish it, the girl who bought a bike and has it standing in her garden like an ornament!
So here's to (hopefully) reliving my carefree school days of skipping ropes, games and chants... yeah right!
Finally, I know how hard it is financially at the moment so please do not feel obliged to donate. A friendly message of encouragement will be gratefully received! If you wish to donate then nothing more than 1p per skip (£1 in total for a 100 skips) will suffice, that is genuinely all I ask for.
Thankyou! x
